Second-pass ledger
Category: bounded copy-editing batch. The second pass removes translation artefacts, regularises British English, and restores natural English sentence structure while preserving the source's claims, credits, disclaimers, and tone.
The French n'est pas complet explains that each volume depends upon its companion, not that the project is an unfinished draft. “Not self-contained” communicates that intended relationship without falsely describing the published version as incomplete.
Duché des Damnés is Barony of the Damned, and Bain de Sang dans les Terres Arides is Blood in the Badlands. Edition numbers use normal English ordinals.
Page 6 uses Wounds rather than “Life Points”, D6 rather than “a die”, Leadership modifiers rather than literal characteristic phrasing, and the Fay Enchantress rather than “Morgiana the Fay”. The spell's omitted statement that mounts are unaffected has been restored from the French source.
Dispersant des fragments gâchés de vertu et de noblesse is not intelligible as the literal “scattering wasted fragments”. The English conveys the image as casting aside the tattered remnants of virtue and nobility before calling down the Lady's wrath; the rules effect remains unchanged.
Category: source restoration. The general and Vampire Counts tables were translated into French from Jervis Johnson's English Warhammer: Civil War article and then translated back in the first English pass. Their original English headings and WFB8 terms have now been recovered from the English article. This restores names including “Pent-Up Fury”, “Undeserving”, “Grasping Graves”, “Lahmia Ascendant”, “Pallid Handmaidens”, and “Master Strike”. Where the project omitted or lightly altered connective prose, the English has been edited for fit without changing the rules effect.
The table on Rules page 9 is not a lost Games Workshop English table. The surviving WarFo development discussion shows the project authors composing and revising it in French. Its English headings are therefore editorial translations rather than recovered canon: “Favours of the Lady”, “Thoroughbreds”, “As a Token of My Esteem”, “Valour”, “The Jacquerie”, and “Lances of Heroes”. “Ancient Enmity” is restored from the official table because that row was copied from Jervis Johnson's rules.
Ordre venu d'en Haut is “Command from On High”, Invocation Nocturne is “Nocturnal Summoning”, and Focus de Mort is “Nexus of Death”. Vampire Nouveau-né is the established English rank “Vampire Thrall”, not the literal “Newborn Vampire”. The source's undefined 1+1D3 cavaliers remains “1+D3 cavalry models” rather than silently restricting the reward to Black Knights or another unit.
Category: bounded copy-editing batch. Sentence structure, British spelling, capitalisation, dice notation, tests, saves, challenges, special rules, and unit names are normalised to English WFB8 usage. Mechanical quantities, timing, target restrictions, and victory effects are preserved except where a separate ledger entry explicitly records a source restoration or interpretation.

First review choices
House style: use “King of Bretonnia” in headings and normal prose, but retain “Royarch” when the text explicitly invokes the formal End Times title.
The Guide's 2523 date is retained. English summaries also place the Battle of Quenelles and the final years of the civil war in 2523, so no silent chronological correction is warranted.
This is the agreed name for Alliance contre la Non-Vie. It retains the abstract sense of the French and reads as a suitably Warhammer-style formal army name.
The prohibition against executing fellow nobles comes from Barony of the Damned. The executions on pages 14 and 27 are fan-campaign outcomes. Page 10 therefore says that for many years Mallobaude remained honour-bound and had never ordered such an execution; the later branches depict the eventual collapse of that restraint without presenting those events as Games Workshop canon.
The French campaign authors developed the unit from official references to the mirror-lake's spirit-knights, but Chevaliers-Moires is their novel unit name. The proper name is retained and the relationship to the spirit-knights is explained in its first substantial English description.
The title appears unchanged in English accounts of the End Times. It is introduced as “Sacremor, the Green Knight” where context requires.
WFB8 Rules first pass
Literal renderings such as “invulnerable save,” “Command,” “Life Point,” “Fiasco,” and “Cabbalistic Object” have been normalised to ward save, Leadership, Wound, miscast, and Arcane Item. Army-book unit names likewise take priority over descriptive translations.
The fan rules adapt Age of Sigmar material to WFB8. Branchwych, Bittergrub, Kurnoth Hunters, Quiverlings, and Spite-Revenants therefore use their published English names rather than newly literal translations.
The French names are rendered as the Dolorous Blade, Shadow Steed, Silver Lance of the Blessed, and Armour of the Green Knight. These choices are shared by Gilles, Sacremor, and the Chevaliers-Moires where relevant.
Collaborative policy and rules decisions
Canonical English sources are used to recover established names and references, not to rewrite the campaign into Games Workshop's official sequence of events. Campaign-specific deaths, survival, allegiances, and alternate outcomes remain as the source presents them, without added continuity warnings or “Campaign Fate” labels.
The French un Pas de mouvement supplémentaire names a unit of tabletop distance, not an additional movement action or an increase to the Movement characteristic. Louen and Mallobaude therefore add 1" to the distance of a normal move, march or charge made directly towards the other by the shortest possible route.
The curse is the counterpart to the Lady's Blessing, which grants a ward save on a 6+, improving to 5+ against Strength 5 or higher. Accordingly, each Black Grail Knight that passes a ward save rolls one D6 and is slain on a 6+, or on a 5+ if the attack is Strength 5 or higher. Armour saves and Regeneration do not trigger the curse.
The French rule names la Magie de la Mort ou la Nécromancie. Its development notes explain that the Banshee's spellcasting was inherited from her 5th-edition profile, where Necromancy was an older magic category. For WFB8, it is therefore normalised to the Lore of the Vampires rather than the End Times Lore of Undeath, whose French name is Domaine de la Non-vie.
In Conclusion I, Gilles becomes King and declares the crusade, but Louen the High Paladin commands the expedition to the Empire. In Conclusion II, Louen remains King and cannot join it, so Sacremor, the Green Knight, commands it and the Chevaliers-Moires explicitly accompany him. Conclusion III's “Crusaders of Despair” are a separate narrative force: the rules represent its survivors as Bretonnian mercenary allies in an Order army under Louen the Dispossessed, not with the page 41 Crusade roster. The army reference records these branches separately and does not present Gilles as a Crusade commander.
Each reference preserves the campaign supplement's printed roster as its primary list. Profiles unlocked by a conclusion are shown in a separate outcome-dependent section rather than silently inserted. Where the supplement delegates a unit to another army book, archived WHFB roster data is used only as a transcription aid; campaign-specific rules override it, and unavailable fields remain marked “Not specified in this supplement” until checked against the printed book.
The Campaign Armies pages serve a different purpose from the typeset Rules booklet and may deliberately repeat its material. Army-specific rules therefore open to the complete campaign effect, while each unit special-rule name opens to its available definition. Campaign-original text links to the translated Rules booklet. Official WFB8 definitions are stored locally from the WHFB8 Online Rules Index and retain a direct source link. If no reliable wording is available, the disclosure remains unfilled apart from a search link; no rule is inferred.
Several campaign profiles were constructed from an army-book unit but initially carried only their new campaign additions in the roster data. The reference now preserves the inherited rules before applying the campaign changes: the Banshee retains the Tomb Banshee rules before adding Hover and White Witch; the Dark Knight retains the Wight King rules; Black Grail Knights retain the Blood Knight rules; the Red Duke retains the Vampire Lord rules; Coeddil and the Ancient Treekin retain their source forest-spirit rules; and Spite-Revenants retain the Spirit Host rules with Undead replaced by Forest Spirit as the supplement instructs.
