An unofficial campaign too good to miss
A civil war before the End Times
The Revolt of Mallobaude is unofficial, but so well produced that it is difficult to overlook. It was created by a team led by Thindaraiel on the WarFo forum.
The Blood of Sigmar is one campaign that can introduce the End Times, but there could easily have been others. The first End Times volume, Nagash, opens by describing a civil war in Bretonnia as though readers had always known about it. The conflict is also mentioned at the end of the chronology in Warhammer Armies: Wood Elves, the army’s final book for Warhammer’s 8th Edition.
Built from official background
The Revolt of Mallobaude draws upon official Warhammer background. The event appears in Nagash, with additional fragments in Warhammer Armies: Wood Elves. These sit alongside the long-standing threat from Mousillon in Warhammer Armies: Bretonnia, the introduction of Mallobaude in the WFRP2 supplement Barony of the Damned, and further details shared by Black Library author Josh Reynolds. The campaign team gathered those scattered references, filled the gaps, and reconstructed a complete narrative.
Campaign format
The campaign follows a directed sequence in the style of the linked campaigns published for the End Times. Several conclusions are possible, as are several different fates for its supporting characters. A complete campaign can be lengthy, running to roughly a dozen battles, but a fast route omits the lesser engagements and reduces the sequence by about half for groups with less time.

| Bretonnian Calendar | Imperial Calendar | Events |
|---|---|---|
| 1522 BC | 2500 IC | Louen Leoncoeur is crowned King of Bretonnia. He immediately addresses the “Mousillon problem,” strengthening the Cordon Sanitaire and helping the Dukes of Lyonesse and Bordeleaux patrol their borders. |
| 1539 BC | 2517 IC | The Black Knight first appears. Mallobaude is reportedly seen at Aucassin’s court. |
| 1542 BC | 2520 IC | The Year of Woe. Tzeentch’s Daemons ravage Bretonnia. The King’s armies are thrown into disorder and suffer repeated defeats. |
| Winter 1542 BC | 2520 IC | The Battle of Castle Mousillon. Daemons attack Castle Mousillon but turn upon one another, leaving Mallobaude victorious. Mallobaude and Arkhan must delay their invasion for a year. |
| 1543 BC | 2521 IC | During a battle against Norscan raiders near L’Anguille, knights bearing a golden serpent on a black field abandon the fight without explanation. Many brave knights die to Norscan berserkers. The King musters his army, and many expect a holy war against Mousillon and the Black Knight. |
| Winter 1543 BC | 2521 IC | After years of preparation, Mallobaude invades Bretonnia. His forces initially hold the advantage and rapidly seize territory. |
| Early 1544 BC | 2522 IC | The Battle of Châlons. Duke Armand ignores the King’s orders and faces Mallobaude. Drycha’s forest spirits arrive, then suddenly withdraw, leaving Aquitaine to be crushed. At Be’lakor’s suggestion, Drycha abducts the Fay Enchantress and delivers her to Mannfred von Carstein. With the Fay gone, the Dukes of Artois, Lyonesse, and Carcassonne join Mallobaude. Louen defeats them one after another. |
| Winter 1544 BC | 2522 IC | Mallobaude reveals his corruption: he is a Vampire leading an army swollen by the Undead. Refusing to tolerate an Undead empire on their border, the Asrai intervene. Ariel and Orion, Naestra and Arahan, Sceolan, Scarloc, and Araloth join the host against him. |
| Lily Day 1545 BC | Mitterfruhl 2523 IC | The Battle of Quenelles. Louen’s alliance with the Asrai meets Mallobaude outside Quenelles. Mallobaude defeats Louen and leaves him for dead. The Asrai return to Athel Loren carrying Ariel, struck down during the retreat. Without their King, the Dukes fail to unite and Mallobaude conquers almost all Bretonnia. |
| Summer 1545 BC | 2523 IC | The Battle of Couronne. Mallobaude confronts the last Loyalist Dukes. Sacremor, the Green Knight, kills him with a single blow. The leaderless Rebel army is crushed and its Necromancers flee. |
| Autumn 1545 BC | 2523 IC | The Dukes quarrel over Louen’s succession. Sacremor reveals himself as Gilles le Breton, reclaims the throne, and prevents another civil war. Gilles declares an Errantry War against the threats facing Bretonnia and the world. |
| Summer 1546 BC | 2524 IC | Louen returns as the Lady’s High Paladin and leads the crusade into the Empire. |
